Originally presented as a gift to the people of NYC on December 15, 1989, it was placed in front of the NY Stock Exchange without permission. Police removed the statue and placed it in an impound lot. In a public outcry, the statue was immediately placed where it now stands: Bowling Green Park, at the intersection of Broadway, and Morris street, in Lower Manhattan, NYC. It symbolizes the strength of the financial district.
